Climate Refugees
Is it possible to determine the most important and relevant film of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival after seeing just two films? Climate Refugees, the second film I have reviewed, may just be that film! It is simple enlightenment and a must see call to action.
Climate Refugees is the result of a three year project by director Michael Nash and producer Justin Hogan. The idea for the film was born when Michael read an article by the United Nations in which it was stated that there are more environmental refugees than political refugees in the world. When Michael called to U.N. to confirm the accuracy of the article, the U.N. refused to credit it or discredit it. The response of the U.N. inspired Michael to investigate the concept of environmental refugees, which opened his eyes and led to the creation of this film.
Climate Refugees is a well directed and produced documentary consisting of interviews with international politicians, academians, scientists, and an eclectic collection of people whose lives that have been or are currently being affected by the environment. The heart felt interviews, honest photography, and a brilliant soundtrack by Michael R. Mollura take this film beyond the realm of a typical documentary. What happens when sea level rises one meter and tens to hundreds of millions of people are displaced?
This is a current and informative film that I would recommend to all.
